We ate some chicken in Copenhagen, Denmark

Copenhagen, Denmark, is not the best place for Mia and I. Well, the city is actually lovely and we had a great time there, but when you get into the city about 4 ½ hours before you were meant to and the only form of accommodation for poor student travelers is closed, it causes us to form some hostility towards the place. Mia and I got into Copenhagen at 1:33am instead of 6am like we were meant to.  This was a problem, since after getting little to no sleep, we were kicked out of the train station with nowhere to go. After lugging our suitcases through the snow, we found our savior….KFC.

We ended up staying in KFC until it closed, which was at 5am. We managed to make a ton of friends, and of course, we just HAD to eat some chicken. J

(please excuse the extremely creepy face.)
After being kicked out of the KFC, we went back into the train station and tried to be cheeky and take naps. After getting yelled at by the same security guard, my lovely Mia came up with the most brilliant idea! Since we had Eurail and Interail passes, we could ride the train back to Malmo, Stockholm (about a 30 minute ride) and then back to Copenhagen. So that is just what we did. We got some sleep in a warm room, just what we needed!

When we got back to Copenhagen, we were very refreshed! And we were welcomed with sun! The only goal for the morning was to find the Mermaid of Copenhagen. Along our quest, we ran into some great views of the city!

Then…..WE FOUND HER!

After lunch in the center of the city, we made our way to Tivoli, an amusement park near the train station, to kill a couple of hours before getting on our train.

All in all, Copenhagen is a beautiful city, with wonderful people (minus the people that work in the train station, I’m hoping they were ALL collectively having a bad day, or that is where they force all the grumpy old people to work.)

Next stop, Berlin for New Years with our amazing friend Chris Tack!

Swedish Fish are, in fact, the best.

After a lovely Christmas in Finland with Mia’s absolutely wonderful family, we headed off to start our gradual conquering of Europe. On Monday, December 27th, we set off on a cruise from Helsinki, Finland to Stockholm, Sweden. This was a very neat way for us to travel!

We spent the night at the best buffet ever, eating tons of Finnish food, and not so Finnish food (we happened to share a plate of nachos, just because we could!) After nearly two hours of lush eating, we decided to go take a little nap in our cabin.

Around midnight, we ventured upstairs and watched the dance show, which was pretty interesting, but mostly fun! Made some friends, both of which thought I was Swedish, don’t know how that happened.
Then we made our way up to the night club and danced a bit.

Oh Yeahhhh I won too!

I think we took a wrong turn.

But we were so exhausted that we decided to make our way back to our cabin and get some sleep before we got into Stockholm in the morning.

I was too excited to be cold!
Once in Stockholm (it was freezing!)

We made our way to the train station so we could figure out our train reservations.

OHHHHH! A story I forgot to mention. Before Mia and I got onto the ship in Helsinki, we went to the train station so we could pick up and pay for all of our train reservations, but the Finnish train system decided that it wanted a day off and didn’t work, and also decided that it wanted to lose ALL of our reservations. After a mild freak out, we made our way to the ship and decided that we would deal with it at the train station in Stockholm.

After we paid for the majority of our train tickets, we started our personal walking tour of Stockholm. Mia, being the amazing European girl that she is, knows fluent Swedish and was able to translate everything!  We went to the Old Town of Stockholm, called Gamla Stan. It was really cool because all of the streets contained cool little shops and cafes.

Mia and I stopped in this little cavern for some lunch. It was really cool because the cavern was practically built underground.

Since we had been walking around all day and taking pictures of everything, and well….freezing, we decided that we should go be the students we are and venture to the Vasa Museum. The Vasa museum houses a Swedish shipwreck that is about 333 years old. The ship was hoisted up from the bottom of the sea, with 95% of it still intact.

After a long day of touring, Mia and I were happy to sit down on the train. Off to Copenhagen, Denmark and Country #2!
